Extroversion

'Extroversion' captures an idea of confidence and a strong sense-of-self. Extroverted cats tend to be decisive, curious, and persistent in their goals, and are good problem solvers. They may need a more complex environment to avoid getting bored, and can benefit from extra toys and greater attention from humans and other animals. Extroversion often declines with age.

Neuroticism

'Neuroticism' includes traits such as insecurity, anxiousness, being fearful of people, and shyness. Highly neurotic cats will benefit from additional hiding places around the home and access to private, quiet spaces to unwind. Cats with low neuroticism may travel further from the home if allowed outside.

Agreeableness

'Agreeableness' includes affection, friendliness to people, and gentleness. It reflects a willingness to cooperate and a general warmth to other creatures. Cats which are high in agreeableness will be a source of enrichment to other pets. If a cat is disagreeable, this might reflect a frustration with their environment rather than an innate personality, and changes to the home could help bring out a warmer character.

Dominance

'Dominance' reflects an inclination to bully other animals or try to be the ‘alpha cat'. Dominant cats are willing to fight for what they want and are difficult to dissuade from action.

Impulsiveness

'Impulsiveness' is a willingness to take quick action. It may reflect reckless or erratic behaviour. Impulsive cats are easily distracted and may be more aggressive when playing (biting or scratching, for example). Cats that are low in this trait are likely well-adjusted to their environment and tend to enjoy routine.
